Fremont Danceworks!
Fremont Danceworks was created in the fall of 1999 by Mary Reardon and Vivian Little as a means for aspiring young dancers to come together as a performing group. The company dancers have had the opportunity to experience master teachers from around the country. They have studied with Carla Maxwell, Artistic Director of the Limón Dance Company and with various Limón company members, Kitty Daniels, Chair of the Dance Department at Cornish College of the Arts, Patrick Thomas, Director of Paul Taylor II Dance Company, Keith Sabado, formerly with Mark Morris Dance Company and Donald McKayle, Professor at UC Irvine and a pioneer of American modern dance.

The audition for Fremont Danceworks is held in the spring each year and the selected dancers sign contracts for the summer dance intensive and the following school year. This year’s company members are Dana Atkinson, Raven Blue, Anna Czosnyka, Emily Karboski, Colleen Kearnes, Gracie Morton, Jill Watt and Hannah Wendel. Fremont Danceworks apprentices are Claire Joko-Fujimoto, Mattie Koerner and Emmy Wyckoff.  In June 2007, we launch Jill Watt as she graduates from Lakeside High School and Dance Fremont. She is considering pursuing her higher education at Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Colgate, Stanford, Pamona or Brown. We are very proud of her and excited for her future!

In addition to their appearance in The Steadfast Tin Soldier, A Story Ballet, the company will present a spring dance concert at the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center on April 18 & 19, 2008. We are excited to announce this year’s diverse program. Mary Reardon will restage two movements from the stunning choreography by Carl Ratcliff’s Interlacings. Mary will also choreograph a solo based on the work of Isadora Duncan. Jason Ohlberg reconstructs Wind Down from last year’s concert. Mark Haim, Senior Artist in Residence at the University of Washington remounts his medieval study titled Servitude. Janis Zetlen restages her Paul Taylor etude from last year’s Rite of Spring performance titled Taylor-Made. Vivian Little is reconstructing her ballet from 2004 to a work danced en pointe titled Opus Provoco. The Bluebird Variation from Sleeping Beauty will be performed. For a grand finale, Paula Peters will premiere a new jazz work on the whole company. For more details about their April concert, please call Dance Fremont! at (206) 633-0812 or e-mail.
